Legal Terms

Terms of Use

Rules for using the WebGuard demonstration platform.

Scope of Service

WebGuard currently provides monitoring and operational support features, including:

  • HTTP, ping, keyword, port, heartbeat, DNS-record, and domain-expiration monitoring for configured targets.
  • HTTP/keyword checks with configurable method, timeout, expected HTTP status codes, headers, body, and optional Basic Authentication.
  • SSL/TLS certificate checks and domain-expiration checks, including expiry warnings for supported endpoints and domains.
  • Status and incident tracking, response-time insights, recent individual checks, maintenance windows, and uptime/downtime visualizations.
  • Public status labels and an embeddable public widget when enabled by the user.
  • Channel-based notifications for incidents, recoveries, SSL events, and domain-expiration events (for example email, Slack, Telegram, Discord, custom webhooks), including test delivery, delivery history, weekly digest, and unread-notification reminders.
  • Token-based API access for supported endpoints and public widget endpoints for enabled public labels.
  • Monitoring-location display and multiple server instances used to perform checks.
  • Optional GitHub sign-in and demo access.

User Obligations

Users must comply with the following obligations:

  • Provide accurate and complete account and monitoring information.
  • Monitor only systems, endpoints, and domains for which you are authorized.
  • Protect credentials, API tokens, heartbeat ping URLs, webhook URLs, bot tokens, and optional authentication data used in checks.
  • Use WebGuard only for lawful purposes.
  • Do not misuse, disrupt, overload, or interfere with the service (including excessive automated access).
  • Do not attempt unauthorized access to systems or data.
  • When enabling public labels or public widgets, ensure no confidential information is exposed in monitoring names, target URLs, status data, or embedded displays.

Limitation of Liability

WebGuard is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, specific response times, or complete alert coverage. Monitoring data may be delayed or inaccurate due to external factors (for example network conditions, third-party outages, or target-system configuration). To the extent legally permitted, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, lost profits, outages, or losses resulting from reliance on reported monitoring data. Mandatory statutory liability remains unaffected.

Operational Audit Logs

To protect accounts, diagnose issues, and make user-controlled changes traceable, WebGuard records audit logs for relevant account, profile, API-token, notification, and monitoring actions. Secrets such as passwords, OAuth tokens, webhook URLs, bot tokens, heartbeat tokens, HTTP bodies, and sensitive headers are redacted where logged. Audit log entries are retained for 30 days and then deleted automatically.

Termination Conditions

We may suspend or terminate accounts at any time, especially in cases of misuse, legal violations, security risks, or interference with platform operations. Users may stop using the service and delete their account at any time. As a non-commercial demonstration system, WebGuard may change, limit, or discontinue features at any time.

Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. If you are a consumer, mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence remain unaffected. To the extent legally permitted, the place of jurisdiction is the operator's registered seat.
